Our Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Anchor Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
Bible
We believe that the entire Bible, comprised of the Old and New Testaments, is the verbally inspired Word of God and that the Spirit of God moved upon human authors to write the very words of Scripture. The Bible is therefore inerrant and infallible in the original manuscripts and the final authority on all matters of faith and practice in every age.
God
We believe in one sovereign and self-existent God, omnipotent creator and sustainer of the universe, perfect in all His attributes eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these three are one God having precisely the same nature yet distinction in personhood and therefore equally worthy of worship and obedience.
Jesus
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ coequal with the Father became man without ceasing to be God having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin in order to reveal God, redeem sinful humanity, and rule over His kingdom. In his incarnation, He surrendered only the prerogatives of His divine nature yet not His divine essence and lived a sinless life in perfect obedience to the Father, and voluntarily atoned for the sins of the world through His substitutionary sacrifice and shed blood on the cross completely satisfying God’s righteous judgment against sin. We further believe that our justification is made certain by His bodily resurrection and subsequent ascension to the right hand of the Father where He as the sole mediator intercedes for those who trust in Him.
Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit being co-equal with the Father and the Son, executes the will of the Father in the world, exalts the Lord Jesus, convicts the world of sin, and regenerates the believing sinner unto a new life. The Holy Spirit permanently indwells the believer upon salvation, and baptizes them into the body of Christ, and seals them for the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit equips the church through His sovereign administration of spiritual gifts for the perfecting of the saints and empowers the yielding believer to live a Godly lifestyle.
Humanity & Sin
We believe that man was created by God in His image and likeness free of sin, with volition, rationality, and moral responsibility in order to have fellowship with God and accomplish His purpose in the world. In Adam’s voluntary disobedience to the will of God, man lost his innocence, incurred the penalty of spiritual and physical death and became subject to the wrath of God. Man being alienated became inherently corrupt and utterly incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through human effort apart from divine grace.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is freely provided by God’s grace alone apart from any human effort or works and is accomplished solely by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ who bore our sins nullifying the curse of the law and satisfying the righteous judgment of God. Salvation is appropriated by faith alone in the atoning sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ which is completely sufficient to eternally reconcile the believing sinner to God.
