When Having Heartburn is a Good Thing

May 4, 2025    Pastor Bernard

In this powerful exploration of the Road to Emmaus story from Luke 24, we're reminded that sometimes our greatest spiritual revelations come when we least expect them. The disciples, walking in disappointment and confusion, encounter the risen Christ without recognizing Him. This beautifully illustrates how Jesus often walks beside us in our darkest moments, even when we fail to see Him. The burning hearts of the disciples as Jesus explains the Scriptures to them symbolize the transformative power of God's Word when illuminated by the Holy Spirit. We're challenged to invite Jesus into our 'homes' - the intimate spaces of our lives - where He can reveal Himself fully to us. This message encourages us to seek a heavenly perspective, reminding us that being 'heavenly minded' should lead to being of more 'earthly good.' As we open ourselves to Christ's presence and allow the Scriptures to be opened to us, we too can experience that spiritual 'heartburn' that ignites our faith and compels us to share the good news with others.
