In Times Like These We Need an Anchor

Jan 25, 2026    Pastor Bernard

This sermon addresses the challenge of maintaining hope in uncertain and difficult times by anchoring our faith in Jesus Christ. Drawing from Hebrews 6:9-20, the message emphasizes that true hope is not based on our circumstances, New Year's resolutions, or personal abilities, but is rooted in the unchanging nature of God and the finished work of Christ. Pastor Bernard encourages believers to remain spiritually active rather than passive, reminding them that God sees and remembers their faithful work done in love. Through the example of Abraham, who waited 25 years for God's promise, the sermon illustrates that faith and patience are essential for inheriting God's promises. The central metaphor of the anchor represents how our hope in Christ keeps us secure—not anchored downward to this world, but upward to heaven, connected to the Rock who never changes. This living hope provides stability for our souls even when we cannot see immediate results.
